separator I had a trouble-free ordering experience on the Sheds For Less Direct web site. The order was placed online, and approximately one week later I received two calls regarding the order. Part of the order is shipped from Reynolds Building Systems in Pennsylvania, and that order comes via truck freight. The other part of the order gets delivered from a local Home Depot. As it happens, I was able to arrange for both shipments to be delivered on the same day. Home Depot will deliver the shed siding, OSB roof sheets, plus some 2x4s.

The truck freight shipment from Reynolds includes the roof trusses, various 2x4, 1x3, 2x3 pieces which are pre-cut. You also get the hardware (nails, screws, door hinges, latches, etc.).

The shipment also includes an instruction booklet, although I received another instruction booklet through the mail from Reynolds. The instruction booklet, while not overly detailed, does include good enough instructions and measurements which make relatively easy work at putting the various components of the shed together.

The only negative thing I noticed in the instruction booklet was pertaining to the installation of the trusses. The back and front trusses include the siding and extra framing which make these trusses much heavier than the middle trusses. The front truss is especially heavy. My wife and I made the mistake of installing the other six trusses prior to attempting at installing the front truss, so when we managed to lift the front truss on top of the walls in a laid-down position, we were unable to raise the truss to the upright position because it was getting caught on the second truss from the front which was upright after being installed. Anyway, the moral of the story is that you should install the rear and front trusses first, then do the middle trusses since they're pretty light in weight. The instruction booklet doesn't mention this, but I would recommend at least noting this in case you don't have two or three burly men who are able to lift the front truss and maintain the upright position while setting it down on the walls.

We got the shed put together without too much difficulty, and I added the prerequisite felt paper to the roof (30 lb) along with the metal drip edge and shingles. We also went with a ridge vent to allow for adequate ventilation. All of this material was purchased from the same Home Depot. Considering that I have never done any roofing work before, the roof came out quite nice with consistent reveal of the shingles. Bottom line is if a novice like me can do the necessary roof work, then anyone can do it if they're willing to take the time to do the job right.

If you do decide to tackle this project, then be prepared for a lot of cutting with a circular saw (siding, OSB sheets), although the cuts are all straight lines. It also helps to have a power miter saw for cutting the 2x4 and 1x4 pieces. If you're good with a circular saw, then you can use that for all of your cutting.

I happened to place my shed on a wooden flooring system made up of pressure-treated 2x6 pieces and pressure-treated plywood for the flooring. I spent approximately $500 on the wood for the flooring (2x6 boards spaced 12 inches apart), but it provides a solid foundation for the shed which is also very sturdy. Once we had the walls up and fastened to the flooring system, then I could tell that I was going to end up with a nice and sturdy shed.

This shed kit can be put together by novices such as myself. Considering that I did most of the carpentry work (nailing, screwing, measuring, sawing) and my wife worked as an assistant, I think we managed to do a good job and are pleased with the results of our efforts.
